DEFINITION 

The word geology is derive is derived from ancient Greek word geō logiā. Geo means earth and logy meaning study. 

geology is the branch of science which deal with the solid part of earth and rocks from which earth is compose it also deal with the past life.

Branches of geology

there are two main division of geology 

1 Physical geology 

mineralogy 

 it is the branch of geology it deal with the structures of minerals and the chemical composition of the mineral. 

Geomorphology

it is the study of physical feature,origin and evolution of earth  cause by physical chemical and biological processes

 Geochemistery

it is the branch of geology it deal with the composition of earth and also deal with chemical changes occurs  within and on earth surface .

Sedimentalogy

it is the branch of geology it deal with sediments of the rocks and mineral with erode through wind water or ice and deposit in the oceans and after millions of year make sedimentary rocks. 

Economic geology

it is the branch of geology it deal with the exploration of petroleum , minerals ores, coal ores and all those mineral and rocks through which we can earn money.

engineering geology

it is the branch of geology it deal with the dams . foundations , highways etc

Hydrogeology 

it is the branch of geology it deal with the resources of water specially underground water

Petroleum geology

it is the branch of geology it deal with the study of hydrocarbons and and all petroleum products like natural gas, crud oil , tar

Volcanology

it is the branch of geology it deal with the study of magma rises upward on earth surface through volcanoes.

geophysics

it is the branch of geology it deal with the behavior of rock according to the principals of physics.

structural geology

it is the branch of geology it deal with the structures of rocks above and below the earth like fold and faults.

there are two types of historical geology

It is the branch of geology which deal with the topographic sequences and their age 

paleontology 

Paleontology  is a branch of geology which deal with the study of remains of living organisms ( plants animals and microorganisms )
